The ROYAL GARDEN TOUR - $ 5895.00 pp / double occupancy


Day 1:

Arrival in Berlin. For 2 nights you will stay in the city that never sleeps.
BERLIN ! - The Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Unter den Linden .....
You will be taken on a sightseeing tour and a visit to the Charlottenburger Schloss
and it's garden along the Spree River. Build by Simeon Godeau in the french style in
the 17th century parts of it was later transformed into an english landscape garden.

The rest of the day is to explore on your own. (BB)


Day 2:

After breakfast our excursion will go to the small castle of Rheinsberg. It was the
residence of the young Frederik and his wife Elisabeth Christine. 1744 the castle and
grounds were completed by Georg Wenzelslaus von Knobelsdorff, one of the most
important architects of the Frederician age. Here you can see for yourself the transformation
from a rococo garden to an early landscape garden. (BB, L)


Day 3:

Berlin - Potsdam
Just a short drive, but what a difference!
We stay for one night at the Schloss Cecilienhof Hotel. -
Build as the home of the german crown prince in 1917. History was made 1945 when
Truman, Churchill & Stalin decided Germany's future here.
Potsdam is Sanssouci. Before the Schloss was build the grounds were an orchard. It was a
welcome retreat for King Frederick the Great. Here he could be without a worry, in french
sans souci - In 1744 he commissioned G.W. von Knobelsdorff to build a summer palace from
sketches he drew himself. It was completed in 1747. On top of a terraced vineyard, beautifully
decorated in rococo style, the twelve room building is the jewel in the crown of a 700 acres
park, that is divided into different gardens with statues, parterres, fountains and staircases.
Over the years other buildings were added. The Neues Palais is one of Germany's most
sumptuos palaces now freshly restored. (BB,D)


Day 4:

We drive in our comfortable bus eastbound towards the polish border. Destination Bad Muskau
and Branitz. The famous gardens of Fuerst Pueckler. Fuerst Pueckler was a man obcessed
by the idea to build the perfect Landscape Garden. Having lost his beloved Muskau Gardens to
creditors he took on Branitz to start all over again. You will be taken by horsedrawn carriage
through the gardens to appreciate their vasteness. From Branitz we travel to the SPREEWALD -
a unique wetland area, the only one of it's kind in Europe.
In Luebbenau we stay at Schloss Luebbenau Hotel. (BB,D)


Day 5:

By boat we visit the small country gardens of the Spreewald. In one of these gardens drinks and local
foods will be served - It's hard to say good bye. Yet by lunchtime we leave Brandenburg for Saxony.
Here things look and feel different!
August the Strong 1673 - 1733 Elector of Saxony - King of Poland - formed his beloved land.
He build the Dresden that was so famous before it was destroyed in WW II.
Our first stop in Saxony is a visit at the Schloss Moritzburg and the baroque Falkenlust Gardens.
Then on to Pillnitz at the outskirts of Dresden. The summer residence of the Saxony Royal Courts. -
Your home for the next three day. The Schlosshotel Pillnitz. (BB,L,D)


Day 6.

By paddle steamer we go down the River Elbe into Dresden passing palaces and vineyards.
Walking through the centre of Dresden we explore the Zwinger, the restored Church of our Lady,
the Bruehler Elbe Terraces and continue on to The Grosse Garten. In the afternoon it's back to
Pillnitz and it's baroque garden with the world largest Carmelia Tree brought 1770 from Japan. (BB,D)


Day 7:

This morning we take the small ferry across the Elbe River.
We travel to the Royal Garden Gross Sedlitz. After a tour through the gardens were August
the Strong planned a second Versailles, we drive past the Fortress Koenigsstein to Bad Schandau,
the buzzling spa centre of the Elbsandstein Mountains. A short detour to the Kirnitz Valley will show
you the breathtaking beauty of this landscape.
Afterwards return by paddle steamer to Pillnitz. (BB,D)


Day 8:

We leave Saxony to drive to Dessau and the Woerlitz Garden Realm. We take, weather permitting
an idyllic Gondola trip through parts of the Woerlitz Garden. Afterwards on to the famous BAUHAUS.
It's the birthplace of the modern art and design movement. There will be a guided tour at the Bauhaus
School and the Masterhouses of Walter Gropius, Paul Klee and Wassili Kandinsky.
In the evening we have a fare well dinner at the Bauhaus designed Kornhaus Restaurant in Dessau.
The night will be spend at the Steigenberger Hotel. (BB,D)


Day 9:

Transfer back to Berlin
